Pandemic Protocols In Place For Summer 2022
We are looking forward to having you all here at T.A.P.S for Summer Camp 2022!
The pandemic has caused many changes in our lives, but the need for us to be in community and provide the summer service as we have done over the years have been a big request. At T.A.P.S, we believe we have developed policies and procedures that, when followed cooperatively with our families and campers, can provide a fun and much needed spirit-renewing experience at our camp locations. In partnership with the schools and our wonderfully innovative staff and Directors it was determined we could, in fact, provide camp, albeit under rigorous restrictions, robust protocols and at a significantly reduced capacity. We could still create a summer camp like no other, serving many campers and delivering an amazing summer.
Our plan is not to have one case of COVID-19 across the 8 weeks of the summer season. Detailed planning, careful oversight and the resilience and commitment of our staff will enable us to provide a healthy summer camp experience.
We want you to know our biggest goal for Summer 2022 is to still keep camp, camp. While COVID-19 has entered into every part of our lives, we still want the focus of your summer to be enrichment, fellowship, friends and fun!
Read below for additional information on summer protocols and review this with your camper. These changes are to help everyone stay safe and healthy so camp can run all summer long.
As the summer progresses most communication will be sent via email. Please make sure we always have a valid and updated account and verify that all contact information is correct and up to date. It is also important that all forms are completed, including the new COVID-19 Release Form.
We will be asking all campers to complete a Pre-Camp Health Screening Form, in addition to daily healthy screening while at camp. We are finalizing our infectious disease procedures with medical experts for COVID-19 and will share those with you prior to camp.
Potential Case of COVID-19 Policy
A Healthy Camp Begins At Home
Camper families will be required to complete the pre-camp health screening document and bring it with them when they check in to camp on day one. If there has been any potentially contagious illness or COVID-19 in the household prior to camp, contact T.A.P.S, Inc. for instructions. Once at camp, campers will be required to stay with their groups and not interact with other groups to reduce the chance of spread. Temperatures will be taken twice daily and recorded for all campers and staff. We have a nurse consultant who has partnered with us for immediate feedback and instruction if need be.
Camper or Staff Presents Fever or Other COVID-19 Symptoms
If a camper or summer staffer has a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more, they will be isolated immediately in our separate COVID-19 medical building and evaluated for symptoms. The parents will be contacted immediately and asked to pick up the child and take them home within 30 minutes following the initial phone call. The local health department will also be contacted. We will request that you arrange to have your child tested and inform camp of the results.
Should a camper in the group test positive, it is our policy to notify all parents and staff who are a part of the group only and require them to depart from camp. Parents will be instructed to come to camp within 30 minutes to pick up their campers. Staff will be instructed to depart camp as soon as all campers from the group have departed. This policy is designed to keep camp safe and healthy and not spread the virus. It also emphasizes the importance of good hygiene practices prior to camp and during the camp session.
The same testing process is in place for staff. If a staff member associated with a group presents symptoms, the health department will be contacted for further instruction and they will be isolated and depart camp immediately. If the test results are positive, we will inform the parents of campers within the group and ask them to come and pick them up from camp within one hour of the phone call.
Check-In:
Please be prepared with face coverings for all family members in the vehicle, as well as campers. Staff will be wearing face coverings, too.
· When you arrive, staff will greet you in the pick up/drop off areas and check your kids in after they get a entry temp check
· We ask that only campers exit the vehicle, please say good-bye to your camper before they get out of the car.
Cleaning & Meals:
Staff will be asked to do daily sweeping, trash-removal and cleaning of their areas. Each building and classroom will be cleaned and disinfected by trained staff daily.
Meals will also look slightly different this summer. Instead of everyone eating in the same area at the same time, there will be designated outside and inside areas for each camper group to eat. These will be exclusive to each group to help prevent cross-contamination. Meals will be served by an authorized staff member of each group. Campers and staff will eat every meal with their designated groups. Under the guidelines put forth by both the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Camp Association (ACA) this practice is highly recommended.
Daily Activities and Groups:
Summer camp activities will proceed as usual with activities such as Encounters and Crafts happening both indoors and outdoors. While in the gym, we will limited group games where campers are clustered and or constantly touching each other. Each group will always use equipment when participating in activities and all equipment will be sanitized after use every day. This is to help with contact tracing and lower the risk of cross-contamination. Again, we will proceed normally but with social distancing between groups and face-coverings will be worn at all times.
Rainy Day Procedure:
If there is inclement weather and campers do need to be inside they will go to class or space in the building assigned exclusively to the group for the duration of the camp session. The small groups will be split up to these areas by group number to limit the indoor gatherings of 10 people or less. This will be the practice until North Carolina gives an all clear and there are zero precautions for children.
Face mask and coverings
Staff and campers will be asked to wear a face covering everyday. Your camper is encouraged to pack several of their own. We do recommend one tri fold type face covering, the gator mask are not recommended. All mask need to be clean and not have the appearance of contamination and be soiled. We ask that you use a permanent marker and write your child’s name on the mask. For disposable mask we would like to have the week included so we can be sure campers are changing out mask and are not at risk because they are using a disposable make that has been over worn. For cloth mask, we require parents to make sure they are washed each week and are changed out throughout the week for the same reason as the disposable mask.
Pick-Up:
Pick-up will be scheduled for between 5:00-6:00pm daily. If you plan to come early, please alert the site so your camper will be read to go when you arrive.
Thank you all for your patience and flexibility in this, we understand how difficult these months continue to be. If there is something we missed or you have additional questions, please email us at tapscsmith@gmail.com T.A.P.S, Inc is ready to see you this Summer

The goal is to cultivate a space that is collaborative, enriched and safe for them to experience a host of activities they love without judgement and creative limitations. We do have a daily study hall for students to work on summer projects and get help in subjects they struggle with. Just like the primary camp, we focus on ELA and Math. As an added plus, the middles schoolers participate in community service, college tours, and some filed trips(Depending on number of campers and COVID guidelines) Social Media Responsibility (All Middle School Campers Required) We teach how you can be a responsible user of social media platforms and how what you post matters. High School Internships Jr. Group Leads (Free Internship Grades 9-12 Only) This is an intern position for the High School students who need a place to go in the summer but have just outgrown the summer camp programs. T.A.P.S has been offering internships for years to many high school students. They can volunteer to assist the Group Leads in the lower camps with clubs, tutoring and camp activities. During the summer they will be able to gain work experience and have a safe place to go. These interns will receive a volunteer/community service letter so they can add that to college applications. In order to be considered for Jr Group lead students will have to be dependable, exhibit leadership skills, have at least a C average in class and provide two references. The spaces for this fill up fast. The Interns can participate in the college tours and community service activities.
What does T.A.P.S offer in Summer? T.A.P.S has been rated as one of the top summer camps in the Charlotte Area for over 5 years. Why? Because we offer a one stop shop for campers of all ages to come in and experience a host of activities and education within the camp day. We don’t separate out the cost of camp based on specific interest and topics; all our camp offerings are included in the price. We have been the most affordable summer enrichment for what is offered. Our camp is designed with Academics and Enrichment at its core. Just because summer is here, and it’s a great time to take a much-needed break after a long and unusual school year, kids still need to retain information they learned during the year. We hire Teachers and Highly Intelligent Students to assist with the morning education hours to help campers reach, maintain or surpass standards and goals. We really focus on the areas of ELA and Math at the grade level of your camper for 8 weeks of camp. They are tested and monitored to make sure they are showing growth. In the afternoons, we are packed with clubs that will help cultivate a world of possibilities in each child. Our Group leaders are vetted and are passionate about kids and in the areas, they are leading in. There is very little downtime because we don’t believe in expensive free play, we want to create an experience parents can trust and are confident in. Whether they are in morning empowerment, outside teambuilding in group games, or inside in their clubs we are constantly on the move making it an exciting day. The clubs are subject to change due to COVID guidelines and groupings. “Tapping” into Kindergarten Summer Academy for Kindergarten and Young rising 1st graders (at parent request). All Kindergarteners will go into this club ($125.00 per week Lunch/Snack Included) A child’s transition from preschool or home to kindergarten is a big event for both the child and parents. For many children, kindergarten represents the first experience with formal education outside of the home; for others, it means getting to know new teachers, new friends, a new building, and a new set of rules. Tapping into Kindergarten Curriculum is designed to help both children and parents get excited and prepared for the transition to kindergarten. Our ratio in this camp is 2:10 (Spaces are limited for the Kindergarten Academy to ensure each child is getting the hands-on attention they need) What do they do? The club curriculum is divided into sessions with each focused on different topics important to helping families transition to kindergarten and to promote success: They will experience a list of activities and more of a cultural wheel because we know children that age need consistency, schedules and choices. Because of COVID many of these kids have missed out on the socialization kids get before entering Kindergarten. We will really focus on that this summer by incorporating The Five Social Emotional Learning Competencies of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) while teaching them to Play cooperatively with others; Display self-confidence; Respect the rights and property of others; Practice self-control; Accept and respect authority; Follow classroom rules and routines; Manage personal needs. Because we are housed in the school, they get an opportunity to learn the building and where to go so first day isn’t filled with so much anxiety and the student’s confidence levels are higher. Primary Summer Enrichment Camp (Grades 1-5) The groups are set according to grade level. ($140.00 per week/Lunch Snack Included) The primary Summer Camp is a mixture of Academics and Enrichment. We use our morning hours to focus on empowerment, and education. We understand the importance of maintaining the knowledge they gained over the course of the school year, so every day for 8 weeks of summer camp we incorporate one hour of ELA and one hour of Math at grade level. This means if they are a little behind, we can help boost them to where they should be and if they are ready to move forward to their rising grade levels in those subjects that is what we do! The afternoons are set for their clubs, group games and enrichment. The clubs are the choice of the camper and their parents. They choose two and will go into those clubs every day. Please see the clubs listed below (Clubs are subject to change) Dance Music (Keyboarding and other instruments) STEM Challenges Art/Crafts Athletics/Karate *Chess Extensive
